Let's learn some basic rules that will help you to start reading in Russian. 
First, Russian words have one stressed syllable. 
The stress may fall on the first, second, third, etc syllable of a word. 
Stress is particularly important in Russian phonetics. 
Since the pronunciation of the vowels depends on the where the stress falls in the word. 
In stressed syllables, the vowel keeps it quality. 
In a word, the stressed vowel is pronounced clearly and fully. 
In unstressed syllables, the vowel sounds are reduced and sound differently. 
Stressed vowels are the rhythmic center of a word. 
The pronunciation of a vowel in an unstressed 
position is defined by its place in the word. 
The first unstressed, the second unstressed, the posstonic, etc.
There are ten vowels letters and six vowel sounds in Russian. 
Aa, like ar in far.
