We quickly want to give you some advice
about giving constructive feedback in the assessment process. >> Yeah, so when you are giving feedback
to your peers there's a rubric that you'll be using to give them some feedback on the
various criteria and how they've met it. And that's going to constitute
towards their mark. But afterwards, it's really important
that you actually write down for them what parts of
the assessment were really good. So, what were the strengths of their
assessment, what did they do well? So if you've given them feedback on
the rubric saying they were quite outstanding in certain areas,
just write a few sentences to explain why, what great work did they do? And then how can they improve their
assessment basically, their assignment? What aspects of it were a little
bit lacking that you might have, on the rubric,
marked them a little bit lower? How could they improve that? So that it's not just as rubric
given to them with little tick and stuff and a mark, but they also understand how you actually
resulted in that mark, essentially. What did they do well,
what could they improve? >> And I think the key word
is constructive feedback. Because you can give feedback and
say this was terrible. But really, it's about acknowledging any
weaknesses that may be there, but doing it in such a way that it gives the person an
idea about how to improve and build on it. So the idea here is don't forget
ultimately, we want people to take these ideas away and
use them in their real teaching contexts. So giving the best advice
you can nicely honestly but nicely and respectfully will
actually help them do a better job. And that's what it's really all about. So be clear, be honest, but give some
reasons and some backing for those ideas. So that people can actually do
something positive with them. And if you do good things for other
people it will come back to you as well. So worth keeping in mind I think.
