Hi. In this module we looked into
the sounds of human language. We looked into consonant systems. We looked at many different ways in which
the human mouth can produce consonants. And to, and into the ways in which
languages can organize those consonant sounds into systems. Now I can imagine you
still have many questions. Many questions to ask. Many questions to discuss. And I would like you to
come over to our forum and discuss them with each other, and with us. And they can be all kinds of questions. As a matter of fact, Inge has
already prepared a question for us. >> Yes. Why is it that humans, that humans use
sounds rather than gestures like in sign languages, to produce human language? >> Yeah. Right.
>> Yeah, that's a good question actually, because why is that? So there are sign languages. They're fully fledged languages,
we know that. Why doesn't everybody use them? Why do people still seem
to prefer spoken languages? We only find sign languages if there is
a significant proportion of the community who is deaf. Why is that? We don't really know. Maybe it's because we prefer to use languages also when we
cannot really see each other. Or maybe there is some other reason. Again come over to our forum and
discuss this with us. But also, come to the next module
because there we are going to look one level higher. We are going to look at words. And we are going to look at
sentences formed out of those words. In human language.
