Hello This is Oral Communication for EFL Learners again I'm Yang Fang from Tsinghua University What do you enjoy doing in your life Sometimes we simply enjoy doing things because it is so fun as a hobby we don't know if we ever want to do it full time or professionally Some of us love to play sports some love to listen to music some love to read books quietly and most of you might love to play computer games or read books on the net Your hobby is what you do for pleasure during your leisure time There's something for everyone even if your hobby is very rare or unusual you can always to find someone to share your hobbies Talking about your hobbies in English is not only a great way to practice English acquire skills and knowledge but also a good way to find friends In this unit you will listen to my students talking about their hobbies We will listen to Tom read a text first While listening you may want to think about what is your favorite hobby How much time do you spend every day on your hobbies Hello again I'm Tom And in today's lecture you need to read the text first Afterwards try following me sentence by sentence Make sure that you read the text many times to understand the English fully Let's begin There are a great many hobbies to choose from Some people enjoy reading and writing while others choose to spend their time on swimming and cycling I have many hobbies but reading and jogging are my favorites When I have free time I often read some famous books Through reading I can open my mind as well as my heart Through reading I become more and more knowledgeable I often jog on the school playgrounds in the early morning Jogging not only helps me build my body but also cultivates my perseverance My father is a man with wide interests His favorite pastime is playing weiqi chess He often plays chess with his friends in the park sometimes on the side of the road Recently my father taught me how to play Go Go is a puzzle game that originated in China It is both a kind of competition and a leisure game in daily life My mother is a food lover and crazy about cooking Without much effort she can make very delicious meals of different styles On the weekends or holidays my parents and I will go to the supermarket to buy some ingredients and seasonings to cook what we like My father and I will help wash vegetables sometimes my mother teaches me some cooking skills I like to enjoy fine food with my parents in our spare time Every year my family will go travelling once or twice and we are very fond of family travelling For one thing it is exciting to visit different places and get to know the customs of the local people And for another travelling is one of the best ways to learn Now I want you to try and follow me sentence by sentence Try reading out loud and do this once or twice at home Now I'm going to explain some of the key words and phrases we used in today's lesson Afterwards my Chinese colleague will explain in more detail in Chinese Open my mind To open your mind is to allow new knowledge in to your mind To think about new things and accept new ideas to open your mind Be crazy about We all know what it is to be crazy sometimes this can be a negative thing However when we say we are crazy about something This means that we're very excited about something And we like to spend a lot of time doing it
