DORIS DIPPOLD: This week is entitled ‘Making Sense of Culture’. We will start off by introducing the concept of culture and how it is comprised. We will refer to the Cultural Iceberg which illustrates how many elements of culture are unseen to the naked eye. Some examples of online texts will be provided so that you can begin to develop the skills needed to learn about cultures you may be unfamiliar with. The first role-play of the course, a business presentation, will aim to demonstrate which communication obstacles may influence interactions in an intercultural context.
