In this first week, you'll learn some basic ideas about
successful academic discussions. We'll start out by talking about eight
important elements of a good discussion. Then you'll learn some steps you can
take to plan and prepare for an academic discussion, and you'll hear some ideas for
starting an effective conversation. Additionally, you'll practice
some important phrases for effectively communicating with
partners at an advanced level. Academic discussions often suffer when
the participants aren't prepared or fail to start the conversation
in an effective way. But these lessons will give
you the skills you'll need for getting your academic discussions
off to a smooth start.
